Pana in preajma lui 1950, statiunea s-a mentinut in limitele dotarilor naturale.

Dracula or Vlad the Impaler was the son of Vlad Dracul (1436-1442; 1443-1447) and grandson of Mircea the Old (1386-1418). Vlad Dracul was dubbed a knight of the Dragon Order by the Hungarian king. All the members of the order had a dragon on their coat of arms, and that is what brought him the nickname of Dracul (the Devil). Vlad the Impaler used to sign himself Draculea or Draculya – the Devil’s son -, a name which was distorted into Dracula.Dracula’s renown reached the West through the Saxons from the Transylvanian towns of Brasov (Kronstadt) and Sibiu (Hermannstadt), who often gave shelter to those who claimed the Wallachian throne. In order to escape the peril of losing his throne, Vlad would punish the Saxons. Sibiu and the neighbouring area were pillaged and burnt down by Vlad, and many Saxons were impaled. The same happened to the Saxon merchants who came on business to Târgoviste. In fact, Vlad was called Tepes (the Impaler) only after his death (1476). He ruled in Wallachia between 1456-1462 and in 1476. In 1462, having been defeated by the Turks, Vlad took refuge in Hungary. In 1476, with the help of the Hungarian king Matia Corvin and the Moldavian prince Stephen the Great, Vlad took over the Wallachian throne again for a month. A battle followed, during which Vlad was killed. His body was buried in the church of the Snagov Monastery, on an island near Bucharest. His body lies in front of the altar. In 1935, a richly dressed but beheaded corpse was exhumed at Snagov, a fate known to have overtaken Dracula, whose head was supposedly wrapped, perfumed and dispatched as a gift to the Turkish sultan. They say that impalling was one of Dracula’s favourite punishments, but he was not the only one who made use of it at the time. Other German and Spanish princes would do the same. He used the method for boyars, thieves and criminals, Turks, Saxons and those who conspired against him; more than once it happened that a whole forest of sharp stakes with enemies’ heads would rise around Târgoviste, the capital of Wallachia at the time.Horrified by these atrocities, the Saxons printed books and pamphlets in which they told about Vlad’s cruelty. These booklets also reached Germany and Western Europe, where Dracula became known as a bloody tyrant. In 1897, the Irish writer Bram Stoker published Dracula, which made Vlad the Impaler famous world-wide. Stoker read the stories about Dracula printed in the 15th and 16th centuries and was struck by his acts of cruelty. He decided to make him his character; he also read several books about Transylvania (a name of Latin origin, meaning “the country beyond the forests”), and thought that this “exotic” land would make a proper setting for Dracula’s deeds. In fact, Stoker used Vlad only as a source of inspiration, since in his novel, Dracula is not prince Vlad the Impaler, but a Transylvanian count living in a mysterious castle where he lured his victims. His story takes place in the Bistritza area, and the castle lies near the Bârgau Pass (in the Carpathian Mountains). As Stoker had never visited Transylvania, most places and happenings were pure fiction.Legend and true history about Dracula intermingle and are being kept alive by tourist destinations like the Monastery of Snagov near Bucharest, or Bran Castle near Brasov

Most of the Romania tours that you can take will include a tour of Bucharest, a very interesting city. You can also take guided tours outside the city, and see some of the most amazing castles, monasteries and cemeteries that date back to the Middle Ages. One of the royal palaces is the Peles Palace that is in Sinaia-Azuga Brasov and has ornaments outside and inside as well as painting and wood sculptures that are representative of the scenes of some of Wagner’s works. This is set in one of Romania’s most beautiful mountain resorts. The tour continues on to the village of Bran. Here is the famous Bran Castle for you to explore.

Romania holds such wonderful treasures from the past. There are so many things to visit and explore. In Bucharest alone, you can see the House of the Free Press, the Village Museum, the Herastrau Park and the entrance point to the center of the city, Victoria Place. On the way to Sibiu, you can stop and visit the Orthodox Monastery of Cozia. This beautiful church is on the gorgeous valley of the River Olt. Price Mircea, who was the grandfather of Dracula, Vlad the Impaller, built it. It was erected between the years 1387 and 1391.

On the arrival in Sibiu, which is considered a jewel of the Romanian Medieval times, you can tour some of the wonderful sites of Medieval Sibiu. You will be put up in a hotel in Sibiu or one of the quaint rural guesthouses. Just visiting the Liars’ Bridge, The Tower of the Council, The Protestant Church that dates back to 1321 or the Bruckental Museum you will feel the magic of the Medieval ages that are all around you. It will take you back to the times where the world was just beginning to expand and so many great things were being discovered.

Again you will move on with this Romania tour and come to the Valea Viilor, which is most impressive, to where the ruins of the Fortress of Slimnic and the Fortress in Seica Mica are. In Medias, there is the Gothic Church that has a magnificent alter from the late XV century and unique wall paintings that date to the early XV century. This is also the area where you find the Saxon fortresses, the most beautiful and valuable of the Medieval monuments, which are on the UNESCO heritage list. Some of these fortresses include Boian, Mosna, Richis and more but some of them were never preserved properly.

In the town of Sighisoara you might get some free time to explore and discover the untouched splendor of this citadel. It almost seems that time was stopped in this quaint town and you can again feel the Medieval atmosphere around you.

Another jewel of Transilvania is the town of Brasov. This town has the Old Square in the middle of town and within this square is the famous Black Church that takes up most of the area. All around this town you have the gorgeous landscape of the mountains that surround you.

So, don’t just tour Bucharest – see the whole country. You will never forget the wonders of touring Romania after you have visited it and you may want to visit this wonderful country again sometime to explore some of the places that you were unable to the first time there.

Fringed by the peaks of the Southern Carpathian Mountains and resplendent with gothic, baroque and renaissance architecture, as well as a wealth of historical attractions. Brasov is one of the most visited places in Romania.
Founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211on an ancient Dacian site and settled by the Saxons as one of the seven walled citadels. Brasov exudes a distinct medieval ambiance and has been used as backdrop in many recent period films.
The location of the city at the intersection of trade routes linking the Ottoman Empire and western Europe, together with certain tax exemptions, allowed Saxon merchants to obtain considerable wealth and exert a strong political influence in the region. This was reflected in the cities German name, Kronstadt, as well as in its Latin name, Corona, meaning Crown City.
Fortifications were erected around the city and continually expanded, with several towers maintained by different craft guilds, according to medieval custom.
Stroll around the old Town Hall Square where you can admire colourfully painted and ornately trimmed baroque structures. Take a peek inside the Black Church, the largest gothic church in Romania. Its name derives from damage caused by the Great Fire of 1689, when flames and smoke blackened its walls. The interior is impressive and well kept and houses one of the largest organs in Eastern Europe.
Nearby are towering mountains, rolling fields, thick forests and villages with fortified churches.
Brasov is home to what is said to be the narrowest street in Europe. The Rope Street is approximately four feet wide and links Cerbului Street with Poarta Schei Street. The street was initially used as an access route by fire fighters.
The Saxons built massive stone walls and seven bastions around the city that are still visible today, as well as ornate churches, elaborately trimmed buildings and one of the finest central squares in the country, said to be the spot to which the legendary Pied Piper led the children of Hamlin. Located at the heart of old medieval Brasov and lined with beautiful red roofed merchant houses, the Council Square, known to the Saxon population as the Marktplatz, is a nice place to rest and soak in the beautiful scenery.
In the centre of the square stands the Old Town Hall, now home to Brasovs History Museum, while the southeast corner is dominated by the towns most famous landmark, the Black Church. Around the square, youll find the renaissance style Merchants House, now the Cerbul Carpatin restaurant, the beautiful archway of the Orthodox Cathedral and the memorial museum of the Mureseanu family. In late summer, the Golden Stag music festival takes place here.
